Holiday Hair

Part 22 in a series by Karen A. Stevenson, President, Studio K Salon

Holiday hair.  What are we to do?  There are so many cool, trendy, classy styles that mix fun with conservative.  Shattered and sleek, haircutting altogether has become a new work of art.  It is no longer the precision cutting with straight scissors and a comb.  The razor is more involved, point cutting is a necessity, and the softer edges, even on straight bobs are in vogue.

Whispy,  shattered hair with chunks, pieces separated out, freedom.  Cuts that would make a precision hairstylist’s teeth chatter.  The best part about these more fun, trendy, hot styles is they create an ease in blow drying, allows you to toss the curling iron under the counter, and retires the hot rollers to collect dust.  They are easier to blow dry, faster to fix, less effort with your brush while blow drying, and the entire style becomes beautiful with a few styling products when the hair is completely dry.

To add to the holiday punch, create some awesome under shading of color.  What I mean by that is somewhere hidden under the parting of the hair, behind the natural color for lowest maintenance, how about a few foils of a complimentary color that will only appear when you toss your head to the side, or bend down to look at something below your feet.  Color melting is another choice for the more conservative clients that wish to have a mere hue of darker color under the nape of their neck, and then blend to the lighter color on the top of their hair.  What about allowing a couple colors to create a more interesting look?  Three shades of brown or blonde are better than one.

I realize we live in a more conservative area, where we don’t see screaming violet bangs that often, nor do we see Mohawks of cobalt blue and black stripes, but for those occasional few who wish to express themselves in that manner, color is what makes it individual and fun!

To the more conservative clientele, how about expressing with the life of color?  Try the freedom of color that compliments your complexion, expresses individuality and gives you a new look.  Feel fresh and alive again with the mere change of subtle color.   Whether it is highlights, low lights, adding a few shades of red, of caramel, awesome wheat tones, these subtle changes will bring life back into your face and hair.  Surprisingly enough, these subtle changes will also bring bounce back into your attitude.

Is your hair too light from the summer?  Having troubles looking washed out?  Try bringing some of your natural look back by adding foils of your natural color back into your hair for interesting and stress free growing back into the winter look.  Brighten your dull mousy brown by adding a hint of auburn.

What about you ladies that are gray or graying and wish to gracefully enter into a nicer blonde highlighted look rather than salt and pepper?

What about you men that are wishing they had a natural blonde or a nice graceful gray/brown rather than your silver or white?  This is easy, painless, and the results are younger looking hair!

Does your hair have an ash look that brings out the green tones when you walk by certain lighting?  It may be that your hair is lacking gold pigment and keeping your hair shade at the same level of color, but adding a smidgeon of a gold base could certainly brighten your hair and your smile!

Don’t allow your hair to be six inches of grown out color creating a two tone half and half look.  There is no reason to not have the salon create your grow out pain free and elegant.  The answers are all in color, color, and color.  Technique is the way in which the answer comes.  A consultation is the way in which you achieve greater understanding of what your hair could do, and the possibilities are endless.  Statistics indicate that over eighty percent of women add some sort of color to their hair.  If you are not satisfied with your current color, whether it be already highlighted, or growing out, or it’s natural state, it may be time to investigate your alternatives.  If you are watching your grays start to pop through, it may be time to add some voila to your hair.

Whatever your thoughts, bring them to the salon, and let us look and see what your possibilities could truly be.   Don’t allow these holidays to go by with dissatisfaction and basic when you can WOW your relatives and friends at your Christmas Party!

Happy Holidays and Bounce your way as the life of the party with color!
